Most of us have something to complain about when it comes to our hair, as it is either too thick, or it’s thin hair that just hangs there looking lifeless. However, research has really gone to town on hair products, and you can find long aisles full of hair products designed to make your hair shiny, or thick, or curly or stronger, …  and the list goes on.

If your hair is on the thin size, then you may want to try some of these volumizing products, which help to give the illusion of lots of hair, and the hair thickening products can help too. But one of the best things to do is to go to a reputable hair dressers, and get your hair cut in a style that will help to improve the look of your hair.

make thin hair appear thicker

Try to get a recommendation from someone who is happy with their hairdresser, and the care they have taken with styles, and explaining how to make thin hair appear thicker.

For those with thin hair, it is important to get the hair trimmed on a regular basis, say every six weeks or so. Thin hair can easily look straggly if it is not kept trimmed neat and tidy.

Blow drying thin hair can help to add to its apparent volume, but take care not to damage the hair by using too much heat too often. Because the hair is thin it becomes damaged more easily.

Here are some tips for those of you with fine hair.

  • Eat a good well balanced diet. Remember that hair is made up of protein, and without it, it can look even more lifeless than normal. Your hair needs nutrients that can be found in fruit and vegetables, but it also needs fatty acids to help it look its best. Essential fatty acids are found in fish like salmon, so try to eat fish regularly to help give your hair shine.
  • If you are not in good health, your hair will show this, so maintain good health, and your hair will look good too. As you age, hair normally gets finer and thinner, but if you find that this is happening quickly, consider seeing your doctor, just to make sure there are no other health issues going on.
  • Purchase shampoo and conditioner that is specifically for fine hair. The bottles may have the word “volumizer” or “volumizing” on them. These products are specially made to add thickness to the hair, by containing proteins which stick to the strands of hair, giving the impression that it is thicker than it actually is. Try different volumizing products until you get one that you are totally happy with, as some will probably suit you more than others.

Follow these tips for thin hair, and remember the regular trims and a good cut and style, and your hair will appear thicker than it actually is.

If you are one of the millions of men with a receding hairline, and in the US roughly 2 out of 3 men do have a receding hairline, then take heart. You will not necessarily go completely bald, and you definitely aren’t alone. Take a look at the men in your family, did they go completely bald, or did their hairline just recede? They perhaps lost a little more hair each year, but they might still be plenty of hair at the back of the head.

A receding hairline, or male pattern baldness, or more formally Androgenic alopecia, as it is also called, leads to a thinning of the hair at the crown of the head and at the temples. This pattern has been recognized by scientists as a combination of hereditary and genetic factors acting along with the natural occurrence of aging.

practical hair loss solutions - receding hairline

There has been plenty of research conducted on baldness, its causes, and the treatments for it, but despite the millions of dollars spent, there is still no one solution that is good for everyone. There are some products on the market that work well for some people, giving great hope to the rest, only for them to be disappointed when it doesn’t work for them. However, there are new ideas emerging constantly, and it seems like it will only be a matter of time before a more successful treatment is found for male pattern baldness.

Laser treatments are having some success with helping hair to grow again, but this can be a very long process, and consequently an expensive process too. The only instant fix is to get a hair piece or wear a wig, and we’ve all seen horror stories of unrealistic hair perched on top of the head, or slipping over the face. But the good news is that technology is becoming more successful at making wigs for those that want to use them.

Now for males who are susceptible to male pattern baldness, and are over the age of 25, the hormone known as DHT has been found to be over active, causing the male hair loss. As the body ages, DHT  begins creating other side effects such as the stopping the growth of hair. The excess DHT causes thinner hair, by attacking the hair at its roots, and over time, it leads to more complete hair loss.

There are now hormone blockers available which claim to be successful at stopping the hair loss, by removing DHT from the body. They are considered to be natural hair loss remedies, and are available in many places without a prescription.

However, as with all over the counter medication and even prescription medications, you need to check into side effects, and get your doctor’s approval before trying something that could change your health.
